I’m a believer in possibilities. Actually, I’m a bundle of possibilities. You’ll definitely see this in my career choices.
Coming out of college, I made a living as an interior design specialist. I’m a creative who enjoys developing warmth and energy whether at home, on the stage, or in the classroom.
Six years into our marriage, my husband and I welcomed our daughter, followed 3 years later by our son. As a stay-at-home mom, I balanced my time at home cleaning, cooking, and changing diapers with teaching fitness classes.
However, my entrepreneurial pull drew me back into the business world. Believing I could handle wife, mommy, and business owner roles, I started a promotional advertising company out of my home. Within a year, I bought a commercial building and began manufacturing our own products. In 6 short years and a whole lot of sleepless nights, my company was successful. Successful enough to be pursued by a buyer. After selling the company, I found myself in graduate school studying communication and leadership.
Now, I’m a Communication Studies adjunct professor, writer, and speaker—helping students grow into young professionals and families into strong, healthy, and engaged relational units.
I’m still a wife, mom, employee and entrepreneur who finds life exasperatingly demanding at times. But, I know when life gets a little too rough, my home is my refuge. My husband of almost 26 years is the rock of our relationship. His unwavering stamina is the ultimate blessing and the icing on my cake is my two almost grown children who remind me—my past does not define my future.
We can have the family of our dreams if we take the time to learn how to engage with our loved ones. You don’t have to be a statistic.
Every relationship is important. Learn to engage.
